Connect2 is a city-wide project part-funded by the European Social Fund. It will explore new ways of supporting skills development for adult learners in Coventry. Here at FabLab Coventry, we are looking to invite more learners to be part of our creative community, gain new skills and get recognised by employers and educators with digital badges.

Digital badges are used by businesses all over the world

Learners on the programme will earn 'digital badges' in recognition for completing workshops, programmes and getting involved in FabLab Coventry projects. You will be able to keep your badges forever and share what you have achieved with employers, your online community via social media or potential education providers.

As part of Connect2 we also hope to offer other badges from the different partners within Coventry. Digital Badges are recognised across the world - join us to find out more!

The original Connect programme at FabLab made a big difference in people's lives

Nadeem was so excited by his experience on the course and the prospect of the applications of his newly acquired knowledge and skills and has gained confidence in his abilities. He has since attended the Fab Lab to work on his own projects and for the Christmas period made Christmas presents for his whole family.

Dina gained valuable experience and has gained confidence in her abilities whilst undertaking projects at FabLab Coventry. She has since been able to produce her own work to add to her portfolio in order to present to prospective employers in the Graphic Design industries.

Through conversation with Daniel, his previous experience was explained and a more tailored approach was taken to suit his requirements. Since completing the carpentry course, Daniel has been back in touch to look at options for upcycling furniture through our furniture factory.

Throughout the duration of the course, Carolyn was supported by both the tutor and other peers on the course, to cutting and finishing her final design idea using one of the machines available at FabLab, helping to develop a multitude of ideas for other things she would be able make in the future.

Hosted by FabLab Coventry - a pioneering partnership between the city and Coventry University

FabLab Coventry has been a proud part of the community since 2016, working with local residents, students and people just like you to gain new skills, more confidence and to improve their career prospects. FabLab will be providing the instructors and facilitators as well as issuing awards to Connect2 participants.

The Disruptive Media Learning Lab (DMLL) at Coventry University has been pioneering innovative approaches to teaching and learning since 2014. The DMLL is leading the digital badging for the Connect2 project.

Is Connect2 for me?

Join in with this exciting project and develop the skills and confidence you need for further education or employment. At FabLab Coventry, we work with people from a wide range of backgrounds in our community, and we'd love for you to get involved.

Am I eligible to take part?

To join in, you'll need to be over the age of 16, a resident of Coventry living in the postcodes CV1 to CV6 and not currently employed. There are a few other eligibility requirements, so we encourage you to complete the form below and our team will be happy to go through them with you.

Is there a cost?

Connect2 is free to participants who meet the eligibility criteria. Please get in touch to find out more, we work with many people in the community and we can help find the right program to support you.

Where is FabLab Coventry?

FabLab Coventry has two centres - our original digital lab is based in the City Arcade in Coventry city centre and our new centre is based at Fargo Village in Coventry. We deliver a range of different courses and have specialist equipment at both sights.

Who will be teaching the courses?

FabLab have qualified specialist tutors at the centre ready to support you to learn new skills. Our tutors have professional industry experience as well as teaching specialist qualifications.

What specialist equipment can I expect at FabLab?

FabLab Coventry have a digital lab that includes computers, 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutter, and CNC milling machines, our centre at Fargo has a full machine joinery workshops that includes a table saw, spindle moulder, ban saw, turning lathe, planner thicknesser and CNC router, the centres also have a huge range of hand tools to support the workshops we deliver.

How much time do I need to commit to this?

FabLab have courses to suit everyone. We run a range of one-day workshops and longer courses of three to five days. The staff at the centre will able to suggest a course that could fit around your other commitments.

Do employers really care about digital badges?

Digital badges are a new way to showcase your skills to a potential employer or education provider. Our badges are awarded by established and recognised organisations, we believe they provide a clear way to showcase your new skills that employers are looking for.

Can I participate in Connect 2 with other organisations?

Connect2 has a number of delivery partners. Get in touch to find our more. Our aim through this project is to support them so that they can offer their own digital badges too!
