The first steps into the world of designing in three dimensions.
In this *free Digital Fabrication course, we can help you get up to speed, developing your two dimensional computer aided design into vector graphics that function in three dimensions, visualising the translation of 2D to 3D.
What is Digital Fabrication?
Digital Fabrication is the process of using a computer controlled machine to cut or draw out a specific design that has been created through computer aided design – or CAD.
What will you be doing on this course?
Following a tailor designed course, you will be guided through how to:
1: user a computer software programme, called Inkscape, to create various different computer aided designs in two dimensions (2D) that once fabricated and assembled replicate a 3D model.
2: learn how to successfully create tabs and other ways of fixing your model together to create your custom made and designed 3D object.
3: learn how to use the laser cutter safely and correctly to fabricate your designs in different materials, such as plywood or acrylic, before finally finishing off.
How long is the course?
As everyone learns at different speeds, the course is always delivered at your pace, over a minimum of 5 days.
Each day is generally ran 10am – 2pm with a short break for lunch, but if you want to stay longer or come in earlier, you are more than welcome to do so!
Who is it aimed at?
Training group sizes are kept to a maximum of 8 participants to make sure everyone gets enough 1-2-1 support from the tutor if they want it.
Anyone 16 years and over is able to register onto the course, enrollment sessions will be arranged to complete registration paperwork prior to the course beginning.
What Qualification will I gain from it?
This qualification is governed by Open College Network West Midlands. On completion of all activities and your learning assessment portfolio, that we supply for you, you will be awarded a Level 2 Award in Digital Fabrication.
Are there any entry requirements?
Participants will be put forward for the level 2 award on completion of the level 1, if they wish to do so.
Depending on certain circumstances, some participants may be eligible to enroll straight onto the level 2 course, however this is not recommended.
