Hand Tools Workshop

On our 1 day workshop, you will be guided through how to use a selection of hand tools most commonly used. You will learn how to use the different tools safely and effectively, practicing along the way with expert guidance. Learn skills to be able to build your assurance and have the confidence to put your skills into practice at home afterwards. Immerse yourself in a day of hands-on learning as you explore different tips, tricks and techniques for creating hand made woodwork products. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to take home a small product you have made as a showcase of your newly acquired woodwork skills.
What skills will I learn?
– Precise marking and measuring techniques
– How to use hand saws properly
– Different sanding techniques
– How to use a chisel and planer safely and accurately
What will I make to take home with me?
Throughout the session you’ll be learning and trying out your skills on various pieces of timber. By the end of the course you will be able to proudly take home a small but impressive trivet or book ends which will be able to showcase your newly acquired woodworking skills.

3D Printing and Modelling

On our 1 day workshop, you will be guided through how to navigate a digital, 3D work plane, create designs in three dimensions, understand about overhangs and supports, how to slice a model into the individual layers for printing and finally how 3D printing itself works. Learn skills in how to 3D model objects, making sure they are suitable for 3D printing, and take these skills home to continue your learning. Immerse yourself in a day of practical learning as you explore different tips, tricks and techniques for creating 3D models using a free modelling software. By the end of the course, you’ll have designed and prepared a 3D object which we will print for you. We will arrange with you a suitable time and date for you to come back and collect your 3D print once it is ready.
What skills will I learn?
– How to work in different “planes”
– Create shapes in three dimensions, including combining and subtracting other shapes
– How to create a 3D model suitable for 3D printing
– Understand what slicing is and how to “slice” a 3D model
– Understand how a 3D printer works and how to correctly set the printer up for fabrication
What will I make to take home with me?
At the end of the session, your 3D model will be printed on one of our 3D printers, however models will not be immediately available to take away at the end of the session. A suitable collection time and date will be arranged on an individual basis for you to collect your 3D printed article.

Vinyl Cutting

On our 1 day workshop, you will be guided through how to design and create 2D computer graphics, known as vectors, using a free, open-source software programme that is available for home use. You’ll be guided through how to create your own images and text using the tools available within the software and how to incorporate images found from the internet. Once you have your design ready, we’ll move onto the machine itself. Immerse yourself in a day of practical learning as you explore different tips, tricks and techniques for creating vector graphics and vinyl cutting. By the end of the course, you’ll have designed and made 2 different vinyl decals ready to take home with you.
What skills will I learn?
– Using computer software to create unique 2D computer aided design graphics
– How a vinyl cutter works and how to do it for yourself
– Digital fabrication skills including how to create digital files for vinyl cutting
– How to finish a product after fabrication
What will I make to take home with me?
Throughout the session you will be encouraged to come up with a design(s) that are personal to you. You’ll be able to learn skills in how to create the computer graphics, before getting hands-on experience with our vinyl cutters where you’ll be able to cut 2 of yours designs onto a vinyl colour of your choice. You will be taught how to successful weed the excess elements within the design, with the final finished pieces yours to take home and enjoy.
